New House Construction, Winchester, MA
Occupying a corner lot in an established neighborhood with a strong sense of community, this new house was sited to provide a welcoming public face on the street side, while providing enclosure for the private back yard. The open first floor plan was created with a framing plan that minimized the need for vertical supports. The living area opens up from the front entrance, connecting the street side to the sunny back yard. It uses a large aquarium as a focal point and spatial divider, and provides distinct activity nodes for cooking, dining, and entertainment while maintaining an open feeling. Bedroom areas occur on 3 different levels. A very contemporary palette of materials characterize the interior finishes, while the exterior presents more traditional detailing.
