New House Construction, Westborough, MA

Currently under construction, this new home will provide 2,800 sq. ft. of living space. The design evolved from house plans obtained by the owners, which were then developed and adapted to fit the unique features of the site, local regulatory requirements, an evolving design program, and to respond to the owners’ desire to pursue a “net zero energy” goal. The open first floor plan and multi-level second floor plan will bring in abundant natural light and capture views of the meadow to the rear. Careful air-sealing, insulation levels at R-60 in the roof and R-32 in walls, efficient HVAC equipment, and a 7-kilowatt solar photovoltaic array make the house eligible for Energy Star Tier 3 certification. Low-VOC finishes, adhesives, and other materials are selected and an HVAC system designed to optimize indoor air quality. Zoning relief was obtained from the Town to permit the proposed site plan. Construction completion is anticipated by late Spring 2012.
