Residential Addition & Renovation, Lexington, MA. Located
on a hillside lot with southern exposure and serene forested views to
the rear, the
house is a 1950’s “contemporary” with an open floor
plan and large windows to the east and west. The owners wanted to add
a family room and master bedroom suite to open the house to light and
views to the rear. A dilapidated greenhouse addition was demolished and
a ground level family room and upper level dormers were added. The style
and character of the original house was respected by the new work, and
the visual and physical connection between interior and exterior space
enhanced. The new family room features a stained concrete floor with
radiant heating, and built-in cherry cabinets. The master bedroom suite
includes "custom 'shoji' closet ” doors, concrete bathroom
counters, and a bamboo-lined shower. The project was completed in 2002.
A second phase of the work in 2005 included enlarging the dining area,
renovating the kitchen, and further expanding the indoor-outdoor relationship.
