Design Approach

We work with a variety of houses – from the modern and contemporary to the historic and traditional. There are timeless qualities in good residential design that we try to identify and preserve in existing houses, and re-create in new houses. At the same time, homebuilding is a constantly evolving art, and design should respond to how we live in today’s world, incorporate new technologies and materials, and address the challenges related to the environment, energy, and resource use.

As we approach a new project, we consider the importance of a house as home – as a place to nurture and shape the lives of those who dwell there, their extended families, and the neighborhoods and communities they make up. We appreciate the long term impact of building and its impact on energy consumption and the environment. We also understand that a house is a major financial investment, and that design and real estate considerations are closely related. For all of these reasons and more, we believe that it is worth the extra investment to design carefully and to build well.
